Biography of Ignace Joseph Pleyel (1757-1831)

Born in Ruppertshal (Lower Austria) 24th of 38 children of the villages teacher
Lessons in Vienna with Johann Baptist Vanhal.
1772
Aided by count Ladislaus Erdödy he gets five years of lessons with Haydn in Eisenstadt.
1777
Conductor of the virtuosi orchestra of duke Erdödy.
24.04.1784
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart recommended his father in a letter the new edition of string quartets written by Pleyel and named him a good alternative to Haydn.
1780
Educational trip to Italy, sponsored by the Count
1783
Second band master at Strassbourg minster and assistant to Franz Xaver Richter
1789
After the death of Franz Xaver Richter, Pleyel inherits the job as a band master at Strassbourg minster.
1792
Conductor in London for one season due to the French revolution, then coming back to Alsace
1795
Move to Paris
Establishment of a music business, a sheet music edition and a instrument trade
1802
Closure of a complete edition of all string quartetts by Haydn in Pleyels publishing company
1807
Establishment of a piano production
1831
Debut of Chopins in Paris at the house of Pleyel.

Dies on his manor near Paris
