First lessons in music with Merseburg at the "Stadtpfeiffe" (first double bass, later on harp and violin)

Stay in Vienna for the studies of double bass (Zelenka and Fux) and relocation to Dresden
1718
Member of Polnische Capelle of the elector Friedrich August I. playin oboe.
Flute lessons from Pierre Gabriel Buffardin, because there were better career options for flutists than for oboists.

Flutist at the Dresdner Stadtkapelle
1729
First flute lessons with Friedrich dem Großen (twice a year), who was inspired to learn flute by listening to Quantz playing. The lessons were held in Berlin first, from 1732 on in Ruppin and Rheinsberg.

First modifications of the instrument, invention of the corkscrew, a second key for the flute and a mechanism for tuning.

Move to Berlin for the service of Friedrichs des Großen (from 1741 as a chamber musician)

Launch of his flute methode "Versuch einer Anweisung die Flöte Traversiere zu spielen".
1755
His auto biography is published as one part of Marpurgs Historisch-kritischen Beyträgen zur Aufnahme der Musik
1762
A second autobiography in Italian is published
Composed about 300 concertos for flute

Dies in Potsdam. Frederic the Great finished his last composition after his death.
