Born in Rohrau (Lower Austria) second of twelve children (the sixth, Michael became a composer, too.) (might also have been one day later) of a blacksmith

A cousin recognizes the musicality in the boy and manages his musical education in Hainburg (violin and piano as well as being a choirboy)
1739
Move to vienna in the care of Johann Georg Reutter, composer of the emperor and band master of the dome. Schooling at the church choir. The aim was to make him a castrate. As they missed the right time, Haydn was turned adrift.
Servant and accompanist of the composer Porpora, who as a countermove gave him composition lessons.

Serving for countess Thun

Music director and chamber composer of count Morzin (in Lukawitz near Pilsen)
1761
Second band master of prince Esterházy.
1766
Promotion for first band master
1785
Becomes a freemason
1789
Visit by editor Bland from England, who commissions trios for flute, cello and piano

After the closure of the Esterhazy orchestra a one year journey to England. In the meantime his friend Mozart dies in Vienna.

Honorary doctor of Oxford University

Return to Vienna and acceptance of Beethoven as his student.
1794
Second journey to England and end of the scholarship of Beethoven

The first plays from the score.
The London Trios were composed 1794 during a trip to London. In 1878 they were recovered from the estate of a collector in London. In 1909 due to the 100th day of death the composition was published again by the head of the music departement of the Berlin state library. Of three original hand writings one got lost during world war second.
This edition consists of two parts and the score and includes both versions of the second movement in the first trio.
