Biography of Franz Danzi (1763-1826)

Born in Schwetzingen (near Mannheim, Germany). Father (Italian) played cello, mother was a professional singer.
His father played in the elector's orchestra, conducted by Stamitz. Early lessong in piano, cello and singing by the father.

Member of the orchestra
Studies of composition with Abbé Vogler at the Mannheimer Tonschule, very good educational background and language skills
1783
Moves to Munich to succeed his father as orchestra member
First composition, the opera "Die Mitternachtsstunde"
1791
Concert tours with his wife, a singer, to Hamburg, Leipzig, Prague and Northern Italy for about five years
1798
Vice bandmaster at Munich court opera
1800
His wife dies
1807
Because of the low salary in Munich, bandmaster in Stuttgart. Friendship with Carl Maria von Weber and acquaintance with Spohr who joins the same circle of artists they both belong to.
1809
Weber writes in his book of Danzi being the most important living composer of his time
1812
Bandmaster at the court theatre in Karlsruhe and teacher for composition at the institute for arts in Stuttgart

Dies in Karlsruhe
Composed lots of Trios, woodwind quintets and concerts. He seems to be the first conductor using a baton
