Matthias Ziegler

  • Born in Bern, Switzerland, aufgewachsen grown up near Zurich.
  • First flute lessons at the age of ten.
  • Besides autodidactically learning of guitar, drums and saxophone.
  • Begins to improvise at the age of 16.
  • After 6 semesters of studying architecture, change to the conservatory in Winterthur.
  • Concert education with Conrad Klemm, solist diploma with William Bennett.
  • Besides studying employment with the Zurich chamber orchester, participation at jazz sessions
  • After studies tour with New Age harpist Andreas Vollenweider
  • Co-foander of the Palladio Ensemble of flute, cello and harpsichort.
  • Learns to love the deep flutes.
  • Installed microphones at different positions of his instruments.
  • Inventor of the Matusi flute: flute with an additional hole, covered by a diaphragm which can be silenced using a damper (chinese like soand)
  • Teaching improvisation at the conservatory in Winterthur
