Matthias Ziegler
Born in Bern, Switzerland, aufgewachsen
grown up near Zurich.
First flute lessons
at the age of ten.
Besides autodidactically learning
of guitar, drums and saxophone.
Begins to improvise at the
age of 16.
After 6 semesters of studying
architecture, change
to the conservatory
in Winterthur.
Concert education with Conrad Klemm,
solist diploma with William Bennett.
Besides studying
employment with the Zurich
chamber orchester, participation
at jazz sessions
After studies tour with
New Age harpist
Andreas Vollenweider
Co-foander of the Palladio Ensemble
of flute, cello and harpsichort.
Learns to love
the deep flutes.
Installed microphones
at different positions
of his instruments.
Inventor of the Matusi flute:
flute with an additional hole,
covered by a diaphragm
which can be silenced
using a damper (chinese
like soand)
Teaching improvisation at
the conservatory in Winterthur
