Jacques Hotteterre le Romain

  • Born about 1680
  • Solo flutist at the royal chapel of Ludwig the XIV. about 1700
  • He's assumed to have been the first flutist ever at the Paris opera (about 1697).
  • Author of Les principles de la flûte traversière (1707)
  • Was teacher of quite a lot of aristocrats, making the flute popular at the court in France.
  • Wrote quite a lot for the flute
  • Died in 1760
