Premiere of Halil in Israel by Jean-Pierre Rampal and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Bernstein. The title ist the hebraic word for "flutequot&. Dedicated is this piece to all soldiers of Israel who died in the war of 1973, among them the 19 year old flutist Yadin Tanenbaum.
1989
Declines a medal president Bush wanted to give him, to protest against the censorship in arts in America. Conducts the ninth symphony of Beethoven after the Berlin wall falls.
