Mainly autodidactical music studies and a plan to study laws.
1701
Encounter with the young Händel in Halle on his way to study laws in Leipzig leads to the change of his plans and the beginning of working as a musician (Opera, Thomas- and Nikolaichurch).
In Rotation with the Thomas cantor Kuhnau he writes every two weeks a cantata for the board of the city.
1704
Organist and music director of the Neue Kirche in Leipzig. In the same year call to the court of Sorau being the band master of the count Promnitz.
1708
Band master at the court of duke Wilhelm of Sachsen-Eisenach. And acquaintance with Bach in Weimar.
1712
Band master at a church in Frankfurt/Main and shortly afterwarts municipal music director.
1716
Band master at the court in Gotha
1717
Band master of count Ernst August from Weimar.
1721
Cantor at the Johanneum and music direktor for the five main churches in Hamburg.
1722
Declines the position of the Thomas cantor in in Leipzig. This leads to the appointment of the less wanted Bach. Musical head of the operat at Gänsemarkt.
1727
Six duets for flutes or violins are self-published
1728
Foundation of the first german music newspaper Der getreue Musicmeister together with Görner.
