Biography of Henri Tomasi (1901-1971)

Born in Marseille being son of Corsican parents (his father was a postman and played flute for his leisure)
1911
Winner of a price for music theory.
World War I interrupts his music studies. During the war he works as a bar piano player.
1921
Studies at the conservatory on a studentship. Among his teachers are Gaubert, d´Indy, Caussade und Vidal.

Price for piano playing
1925
Price for composition "Prix Halphen" for the wood wind quintett Variations sur un theme corse
1927
Second Romeprice, first price for conducting and following this career as a conductor (Orchestre National de France, Opera Monte Carlo)
1948
Composition of the woodwind quintett Cinq Danses
1953
Grand Prix de la SACEM
1957
End of his career as a conductor due to health problems (among other things deafness on one ear)

Dies in Paris
