Born in Hamburg, father was pianst and composer of salon music
Studies with Gurlitt in Altona
1868
Continues his studies in Leipzig with Reinecke and Frank (piano) as well as with Kiel (composition)
1872
Teaches at Sternsches Conservatory in Berlin
1877
After the end of teaching he has some study trips to Italy and France
1878
Moves to Hamburg. In the same year Serenade for 2 violins, viola, cello, double bass and flute is published. It was commissioned by the Philharmonic Club New York, as well as works for the same instrumentation by Gouvy, Hofmann, Jadassohn und Kretschmer
